So the long-approaching car crash of Woolas’s politics has hit the wall.
It’s been a long time coming – the democratic world has a lot to thank Elwyn Watkins for.
The type of campaigning employed by Woolas is just a nastier version of the type conducted by an arrogant Labour elite up and down the land – especially north of Watford.
If you look very closely at Labour activists, in some places you don’t have to look far to find a kind of sociopathic behaviour. Tribalism is part of politics – always has done and always will. It’s where you draw the line that indicates whether you can be trusted to govern in the local or national interest.
Whether it’s barring political opponents from community meetings, homophobic whispering campaigns or suddenly a campaign about a school closing (when it actually doesn’t have to or won’t) two months before an election it’s time for TO MAKE IT STOP.
Let’s be clear – Phil Woolas is representative of the kind of nasty, venal self-serving `anything for a vote` Labour politics who only looked out for himself and getting re-elected.
For the time being I say THANK YOU MR WATKINS – you courageously stood up to the Labour bully boys. Now let’s get campaigning in the communities of Oldham East and Saddleworth.
