You can complain to the BBC too!

18 months ago while fuming at yet another Today prog debate which was devoid of a Liberal Democrat representative I thought `little ol’ me – complain about it – I wouldn’t know where to start`.

Little did I know how easy it was to do.

First, you have to believe that what you heard missed a compelling Lib Dem narrative.

Second, you have to believe that the Lib Dem case should be put ie that we have a RIGHT to be heard. The Party nationally seems to have come to this powerful psychological breakthrough so you are in good company!

Third, don’t rant about anything – just put your points succintly.

PROCESS (assume I am complaining about a Lab/Con only debate on the Today prog)

Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints

Choose `send a complaint`

Then choose from the drop down box `make a complaint`

Click `next`

Choose from the next drop down box what media the complaint relates to ie `BBC News`

Select location

Select what type of news ie `Radio news`

Click `Next`

Now you need to choose the title – `Today`

Choose the date of the programme

Click `Next`

Click `Bias`

Summary of what the complaint is about – ie `no Lib Dem representative on Today Programme 7.1.10`

Then fill in the main body of the complaint ie `at 7:50 on 7th January 2010 there was a debate about the Environment between Tory blogs and Labour stooge. A lot of policy was gone through yet there was no representation of a Liberal Democrat. Why was this?

Simon Hughes who attended Copenhagen Climate Change Conference could have added value and would have been a good contributor.

I would welcome in future there being a Liberal Democrat voice to add to any debates on any subject.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING MORE ENSURE YOU CUT AND PASTE YOUR COMPLAINT AND 1) RECORD YOUR COMPLAINT SOMEWHERE LIKE A WORD DOCUMENT SO THAT YOU KNOW WHAT YOU SAID (I USE MY BLOG) AND 2) ALWAYS SEND OFF TO MEDIAWATCH@LIBDEMS.ORG.UK

Back to that BBC website:

Always say you want a reply.

Say yes or no to whether or not you’ve contacted the BBC before.

Then fill out your details and press `send`

It may seem a lot but it’s relatively painless:

1. Use the email complaint facility

2. Record the complaint for your own purposes

3. Send to mediawatch@libdems.org.uk

4. Finish the process and send
