Lib Dems main winners in 2009 local by-elections

Hat tip: Vote 2007

The votes are in and the winners of the vote-factor 2009 are:

Cue cliched music and the exaggerated stoic look of the announcer

The Liberal Democrats

There have been 280 local by-elections in 2009 and the Lib Dems have a net gain of 17. Of the gains 14 came from the Tories and 7 from Labour – a further 7 from Independents.

Interestingly, Labour had a net gain of 12 while the Tories a NET LOSS of 28.

We are still behind in terms of contest participation though ahead of Labour that seems to suggest they are having local organisational difficulties.
