Eurovision 1982: The year of the Euro-ballad

I rather like the 1982 contest – it seemed to be a fork in the road where trends came together one towards pop and the other, which I’ll focus on here, the Euro-ballad.

First came Luxembourg with Svetlana and her gorgeous song `cours apres le temps`, then Cyprus with Anna Vissi (who became the `Greek Madonna`selling in her millions) singing something similar with a slightly exotic twist while Switzerland decided to send an entry that seemed to pull both the euroballad and comforting eurovision chords together.

A little peace

A little peace

Last but not least, as she came first, we have Germany’s Nicole and her simple showstopper.

Incidentally, these songs came 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th.
