Complaint sent off to the BBC

Basically about the anti Lib Dem jibes on the Now Show without any corresponding anti-Tory or anti-Labour balance.

The Now Show is just a bully and is part of the new BBC meme `The Lib Dems are not very effective and can’t win`.

  1. I lobbed a complaint off the the BBC about Radio 5 Live’s Victoria Derbyshire. During one of the live party conference broadcasts a woman said she voted Liberal Democrat and la Derbyshire said’oh so you’re used to wasting your vote.’

It was Manchester, the Labout conference and a pretty ‘packed’ audience so cue laughter. I wrote in to protest.

A BBC person ‘carefully considered’ the complaint, said it was all part of Victoria’s engaging style and that there was no case to answer.

‘Oceans’ was rubbish, too. If David Attenborough was dead, he’d be spinning in his grave.

  2. Indeed. I think this has to go for all members, too – including MPs. Next time Andrew Neil, for instance, is telling one of our people that “you won’t be in power at the next elecction”, they need to bite his head off about it, reminding him that it is not his place to tell the public who they are or aren’t going to vote for.

  3. The thing about the Now Show is that they are only giving the audience what they want. Until the audience starts reacting badly to jokes like this, they’ll keep putting them in. Perhaps a more effective way of countering this would be to attend the show and show your displeasure to the cast? Tickets are free, and when I have been in London, I have been on more than one occasion.

  4. I live in Manchester and don’t have the resources to go to every Now Show. The point is that there seems to be INSTITUTIONALISED anti libdemmery going on because:

    a) Journalists are lazy
    b) There is no one banging their fist on the table
    c) It suits the BBC to use a narrative that is `It’s between two parties the third is irrelevant`
    d) There is no equalised system whereby they have a duty to ask for opinion on each story
